Display shows Error Code 2: Fixing throttle error on your WANDLER e-scooter

If your WANDLER e-scooter displays Error Code 2, there is usually a problem with the throttle / half-throttle grip. Common causes include an improperly seated plug connection, the throttle not being in the zero position when switched on, or a damaged or worn-out throttle.

In this guide, we'll show you step-by-step what to check before a throttle replacement becomes necessary.

Important:
Do not continue riding if the throttle does not react cleanly, the scooter accelerates uncontrollably or the error reappears after checking. In this case, the vehicle should be inspected.

What does Error Code 2 mean?

Error Code 2 indicates an error in the throttle area. The display detects that the throttle signal is not present as expected. This can be caused by a loose plug connection, an incorrect throttle position when switching on, or a defect in the component itself.

The throttle is a safety-critical control element. Therefore, the cause should not be ignored.

1. Turn off the scooter and restart

First, turn off the e-scooter completely. Make sure the throttle is not actuated and is in its home position. Then turn the scooter back on.

If the throttle is slightly pressed when switching on or is not cleanly in the zero position, the display may show an error message.

2. Check the throttle's zero position

The throttle must move freely and return to its original position automatically after being released. Therefore, check:

  • Does the throttle move smoothly?
  • Does the throttle return cleanly after being released?
  • Is the grip mechanically sticking?
  • Is the grip possibly touching the handlebars, mirror, grip rubber, or another component?

If the throttle sticks or does not fully return, the scooter may detect an error when switched on.

3. Check the throttle plug connection

A common cause of Error Code 2 is an improperly seated plug connection to the throttle. Therefore, check if the plug is firmly connected and if there are any visible damages.

  1. Turn off the scooter.
  2. Locate the throttle plug connection.
  3. Carefully loosen the plug.
  4. Check the plug and contacts for moisture, dirt, or damage.
  5. Reconnect the plug firmly and correctly.
  6. Turn the scooter on again and check if the error has disappeared.

The plug must be seated correctly. A loose or not fully engaged connection can lead to the throttle signal not being processed correctly.

4. Check cables and visible damage

Additionally, check if the cable on the throttle is damaged, pinched, kinked, or torn. Especially after a fall, transport, or repair, it can happen that a cable is damaged or a plug connection is no longer seated cleanly.

If cables or plugs are visibly damaged, the component should not be provisionally reused.

5. When does the throttle need to be replaced?

If the plug connection is correctly seated, the throttle is freely movable, and Error Code 2 still appears, there may be a defect in the throttle. In this case, replacing the half-throttle grip may be necessary.

Quick guide: Checking Error Code 2

  1. Turn off the scooter.
  2. Release the throttle and check its zero position.
  3. Restart the scooter without actuating the throttle.
  4. Check the throttle plug connection.
  5. Loosen, check, and firmly reconnect the plug.
  6. Check the cable for kinks, pinches, or damage.
  7. If the error persists: have the throttle checked or replaced.

Frequently asked questions about Error Code 2

Can I continue riding with Error Code 2?

No. If the error is displayed or the throttle does not function reliably, the scooter should not be used further. The throttle is a safety-critical component.

Can Error Code 2 only be caused by a loose plug connection?

Yes, a loose or poorly seated plug connection is a common cause. However, it can also be due to a sticking throttle, damaged cables, or a defective throttle.

Why is the zero position important?

When switching on, the control expects the throttle not to be actuated. If the throttle is pressed when switching on or is not cleanly in the home position, an error message can be triggered.

When should I contact WANDLER customer service?

If the error continues to be displayed after checking the plug connection and the zero position, if cables are damaged, or if you are unsure during the check.

Do you need help with your display?

If your WANDLER display shows error codes or you are unsure which setting is correct, contact WANDLER customer service. It's best to have the model, year of manufacture, error code, and a photo of the display ready.
